A fractional data team: senior people, without building the department

110 Analytics is a fractional data team of senior people for established Maltese companies. We build the foundation first, one warehouse and one set of definitions. Then we stay on to keep the dashboards and reporting live and to find the next thing worth looking at. You get the senior team without having to hire, manage or keep one.

The short answerWhat is a fractional data team?

A fractional data team is a senior analytics team that works for your company for part of its time, instead of people you hire in-house. It works like a fractional CFO, but for data: it builds and runs the warehouse, the dashboards and the reporting, and advises on which numbers matter. 110 Analytics provides one to established companies in Malta, starting with a first month of implementation and continuing as an ongoing team.

01The problem

Signs you need a data team, not another spreadsheet

If these sound like your business, the gap is not effort. It is that nobody's actual job is to fix it.

  • “I have a lot of data and do not know how to combine it to use it.”
  • “We do not have dashboards or automated reports.”
  • “Our finance manager is the only one who knows how the reports are built.”
  • “We thought about hiring an analyst, but I am not sure what they would work on.”
  • “Every department has its own version of the numbers.”
  • “Reporting takes time, and the time comes out of people hired to do something else.”
  • “I need help to make the company actually use its data.”

Why hiring one analyst may not fix it

Hiring a data analyst is the usual answer, and without a warehouse underneath it can go wrong. Whoever you hire tends to spend their time rebuilding reports by hand: exporting from each system, pasting the files together, reconciling totals that disagree. You have hired an analyst and given them the export work instead of the analysis.

The knowledge of how those reports work then lives in one person. When they are on leave the pack is late. When they resign, it can stop, and the next hire starts again from a folder of spreadsheets.

A full in-house function addresses that, but it means a data engineer to build the pipelines, an analyst to use them and someone senior enough to decide what to measure. That is a department to recruit, manage and keep, before it has built anything.

02What we do

What does fractional mean?

Fractional means you get senior people for the share of their time your business needs, rather than hiring them full-time. The model is familiar from finance, where companies that need financial leadership but not a full-time finance director engage a fractional CFO.

A fractional data team applies the same idea to data. The work needs people senior enough to decide what to measure and technical enough to build the systems that measure it. It is rare to need all of that full-time, or to find it in one hire.

You deal with one team. You do not recruit it, manage it or keep it busy between projects, and the work it builds stays in your business, not with us.

Glen, our founder, is the person on the first call, and he runs every data audit himself. Our people have run analytics for tier-one companies, S&P 500 firms and high-growth technology businesses.

What does a fractional data team do?

A fractional data team builds the foundation, runs the reporting on top of it and advises on what to measure. It is the whole spectrum, not just the dashboards.

01

Builds the foundation

The warehouse and the overnight loads that feed it, in your environment, under your account. Every system you run loads on a schedule, overnight, without anyone exporting anything.

02

Agrees the definitions

We agree with your team what revenue, customer, margin and the other key terms mean, write each one down once, and every report inherits it.

03

Runs the reporting

Dashboards with tiered access and reports that send themselves, kept live as your systems and questions change.

04

Watches for you

Flags raised by rules, not by someone noticing: a KPI marked behind, a customer with no recent order, a project sitting too long in one stage.

05

Advises

Which metrics actually matter, what decision each one drives, and what to stop measuring. A dashboard full of the wrong metrics looks like progress and is not.

06

Scales when needed

Most work is delivered by our own team. Larger and more complex projects draw on our partner network, and you still deal with one team.

Working alongside a fractional CFO or finance team

A fractional data team fits alongside a fractional CFO or an in-house finance team. The CFO decides what the business needs to know. The data team makes sure the numbers exist, agree with each other and arrive on time.

If your CFO already knows which figures the board should see, those figures are where the first dashboard starts.

If your finance lead carries the reporting today, often by hand at the start of every month, we agree the definitions with them first. Once the warehouse is live, the pack they used to assemble builds itself, and their time goes on what the numbers mean.

We do not do the CFO's job. We do not give financial advice, prepare statutory accounts or replace your accountants. We make the data they rely on usable.

When is a fractional team the right choice?

A fractional data team suits a company in Malta that needs senior data work built and kept running, but not a full department. That usually means data in several systems, reporting done by hand, and nobody whose actual job is to fix it.

It is not the only answer, and some companies should hire in-house. The first call ends with a straight answer on whether 110 Analytics is the right fit, so if yours is one of them, you will hear that there. The order still matters: put the foundation in first, and the person you hire inherits a system rather than a spreadsheet.

If you already have someone doing reports, a fractional team does not replace them. It gives them the foundation, and their time back for the analysis you hired them for.

What the ongoing team does after the first month

After implementation, the fractional team stays on. Its job is to keep the reporting live and to keep finding the next thing worth looking at.

01

Keeps it running

Systems change, the business adds a product line, a definition needs revisiting. A warehouse nobody maintains drifts. We maintain it.

02

Adds what comes next

New sources, new dashboards and new reports, built on the same definitions so they agree with everything already there.

03

Answers new questions

When leadership asks why a number moved, the answer comes from one place to look, not from a new round of exports.

04

Switches on the AI layer

Plain-language questions answered from your ontology and your warehouse. It is the last thing we switch on, not the first.

05

Embeds the habit

We help your leadership team run its meetings from one live view rather than a document someone built, so every decision starts from the same numbers.

What changes: an example

Illustrative example. A fictional business, not a client.

A group in Malta runs three trading companies, each with its own accounting system, plus one CRM shared across all three. It uses a fractional CFO for financial leadership. Nobody's job is data.

Before
  • The CFO starts every month by assembling group figures from three sets of exports.
  • Each company counts revenue its own way, so the group total is argued over before it is used.
  • A board question goes to the CFO, who asks a bookkeeper, who exports again.
  • One bookkeeper holds the consolidation spreadsheet, and nobody else can run it.
After
  • The three accounting systems and the CRM load into one warehouse overnight, in the group's own account.
  • Revenue has one definition for the group, agreed with the CFO and written down once.
  • The board pack prints itself from the live figures, and each managing director sees their own company.
  • The ongoing team adds new sources as the group changes and keeps the reports live.

Nobody new was hired. The CFO still decides what the group needs to know, and now spends the start of the month on what the numbers mean rather than on making them.

04How it works

What the team has built by the end of the first month

Implementation is the first month. Once you accept the quote, it is three to four weeks to a live dashboard. By the end of the month, the foundation is in place.

Your definitions, written down

The key terms your business runs on, each agreed once with your team and modelled so that every report inherits it.

A warehouse in your account

Built in your environment, under your account, with your credentials. It keeps running and stays yours whatever happens between us.

Overnight loads

Your core systems loading into the warehouse on a schedule, with nobody exporting anything.

A live dashboard

The view that would change the most about how you run, built on your own metrics and your own definitions.

Tiered access

Leadership sees the whole business. Each team sees its own numbers, and nobody sees everything by accident.

  4. The ongoing teamAn ongoing fractional team that keeps the reporting live and keeps finding the next thing worth looking at.

What we are not

  • We are not a recruitment agency, and we do not place staff.
  • We are not IT. We do not build or replace the systems you run; we work with the data in the tools you already have.
  • Your data stays in your custody. The warehouse sits under your own account.
  • We do not replace your CFO, your accountants or your finance team.
  • We do not automate decisions. Anything that needs judgement stays with the people paid to exercise it.

05Questions and terms

Straight answers

How is a fractional data team different from hiring a data analyst?

An analyst without a warehouse tends to spend their time rebuilding reports by hand. We put the foundation in first. If you then want an analyst in-house, they inherit a system rather than a spreadsheet.

Is a fractional data team cheaper than hiring in-house?

It depends on what you would otherwise hire. The work is quoted after the data audit, so you can set our quote against the cost of recruiting, managing and keeping a hire yourself.

Do we get locked in?

No: everything the team builds sits in your own account, so it stays yours and keeps running if the engagement ends.

Do you work with our fractional CFO or finance team?

Yes. They decide what needs measuring; we make sure the numbers exist, agree and arrive on time. We agree the definitions with them first.

Are you a recruitment agency?

No. We do not place analysts or other staff. We are the team, and we build the system an in-house analyst could later inherit.

What happens in the first month?

Implementation. We agree the definitions with your team, build the warehouse in your environment and put a live dashboard in front of leadership, three to four weeks from an accepted quote.

What if the project is bigger than a fractional team?

Most work is delivered directly by our own team. Larger and more complex projects draw on our partner network, and you still deal with one team whoever is doing the work.

Who is on the team?

Glen Sultana, our founder, leads the work and runs every data audit himself. The build and the ongoing work are delivered mostly by our own team, and a larger project brings in our partner network behind the same front door. Our people have run analytics for tier-one companies, S&P 500 firms and high-growth technology businesses.

Who is a fractional data team for?

Established Maltese companies turning over roughly €1M to €10M a year, with data spread across several systems and nobody whose job is to bring it together.
